Job Overview: The Community Engagement Manager will play a critical role in fostering strong, positive relationships between the Cameroon Mining Company and the local communities in Mbalam. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing community engagement strategies and programs that align with our corporate social responsibility objectives. This role requires a highly motivated individual with a deep understanding of community dynamics, excellent communication skills, and a passion for making a positive impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute community engagement strategies that align with the company’s goals and the needs of the local communities in Mbalam.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the company and local communities, ensuring open and effective communication.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, local organizations, and other key stakeholders.
- Organize and facilitate community meetings, events, and workshops to gather feedback, address concerns, and share information about company activities.
- Identify and assess the needs of the community, working closely with internal teams to develop programs that support community development and well-being.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of community engagement initiatives, providing regular reports to senior management and recommending adjustments as needed.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including environmental, health, and safety, and operations, to ensure that community concerns and interests are considered in decision-making processes.
- Manage community-related issues and conflicts, working to find mutually beneficial solutions.
- Advocate for the community’s interests within the company, ensuring that their voices are heard and respected in all relevant company activities.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies related to community engagement.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in community engagement, community relations, or a similar role, preferably within the mining, energy, or extractive industries.
- Proficient in both English and French. Knowledge of the local language is an asset.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful community engagement programs.
- Strong understanding of the social, cultural, and economic dynamics of the Mbalam region or similar contexts.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage conflicts and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong sense of initiative and accountability.
- Proficiency in local languages and knowledge of the Mbalam area is a strong advantage.
- Willingness to travel regularly within the region and work flexible hours as needed.
