INTRODUCTION
Founded in 1993, Médecins du Monde-Switzerland (MdM-CH) is a humanitarian non-governmental organisation working in Switzerland and internationally to establish sustainable access to healthcare for excluded populations. MdM-CH has been present in Cameroon since 2013, and its main aim is to improve the living conditions of vulnerable populations.
In the North-West region, MdM Switzerland benefits from the experience gained from the implementation of 03 projects geared at promoting SRHR and strengthening the COVID-19 response between 2021 and 2023, as well as the good practices gained from 2 consecutive phases of a protection and education programme implemented since 2018 of which the phase 3 is currently underway.
As part of the implementation of its programmes to reduce maternal, neonatal and infant mortality, the Cameroon Mission of MdM-CH is looking for a project manager to lead an SRHR project in Mezam Division of the North West Region, Cameroon.
– JOB DESCRIPTION
GENERAL DESCRIPTION :
Reporting to the General Coordinator and under the hierarchical supervision of the Programs Coordinator and with the technical support of the SRHR and GBV technical advisors, the Project Manager will be responsible for managing the project titled « Improving access to maternal and child health (MCH) in rural and semi-urban areas of Mezam Division, North-West region of Cameroon, » which aims to improve the health and well-being of the populations of the host communities and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the health districts of Bamenda II, Bamenda III and Tubah by contributing to the reduction of maternal, neonatal and infant morbidity and mortality. Also, the SRHR North West Project Manager will support the implementation of medical activities in other MdM Switzerland projects in the West and North-West regions. He/she will directly supervise 02 Health District Supervisors and work closely with the project’s administrative, financial, and logistical staff to ensure attainment of project objectives.
More specifically, the Project Manager’s main tasks will be as follows:
Objective 1: Planning and coordination of project activities
Objective 2: Management of the project team, collaboration with partners and representing MdM-CH
Objective 3: Project monitoring and follow-up
– REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
1. Education
– Training in general medicine is required.
– Additional training in public health, sexual and reproductive health and/or project management would be an added advantage.
2. Professional experience
Ø Required
– At least three (3) years as a Project Manager in an international organisation.
– Must have managed at least one (1) project on maternal, neonatal and child health or sexual health.
– Experience in community health in the North West and/or South West in general and Mezam in particular.
Ø Asset
– Clinical experience in gynaecology and/or paediatrics.
– Experience working in the field of protection with vulnerable populations including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and ethnic minorities.
3. General and specific skills
– Good analytical and reporting skills.
– Project/program management based on the Results-Based Management (RBM) approach.
– Ability to establish and foster respectful, collaborative working relationships within the project team, the organization and with the various partners: NGOs, State structures, communities, etc.
– Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; French will be an asset.
– Excellent negotiating and influencing skills in multicultural contexts.
– Fluency in using Office Pack tools (Word, Excel, Power point, Excel, Publisher etc.)
– Ability to express oneself in one of the local languages (Pidgin, Bambili, Mankon, Nkwen etc.) would be an asset.
– Good knowledge on violence and GBV.
– Autonomy while respecting the procedures and rules of life and security of the mission.
