The context :

In 2021 WWF approved the FLR1 in Africa Initiative covering 09 countries including; Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, the DRC and Cameroon. Through this Initiative WWF aims to bring 13.5 Million ha of degraded landscapes across Africa, under restoration by 2027. More about this initiative can be found Here. It should, however, be noted that Cameroon alone in 2017 pledged to restore more than 12 Million hectares of her degraded landscapes through the Bonn Challenge and AFR100 Platforms. Of this pledge, over 80% of seriously degraded landscapes are in the 03 Northern regions of the country (Adamaoua, North and Extreme North), a region that incidentally harbours in the neighbourhood of 34% of Cameroon’s estimated 22 million people.

WWF CCPO has worked in Cameroon for over 30 years and remains one of the biggest nature conservation organization in the country with a very wide geographic coverage. WWF CCPO withdrew from the northern regions over half a decade ago due to restructuring and a need to re-define her core intervention areas. Now, with a sharp focus on people-centered, inclusive conservation, prioritizing the re-building man’s broken relationship with nature, WWF, through her FLR in Africa Initiative (FLRinAI) has adopted a very bold ambition for Cameroon. Under the FLRinAI, WWF has scaled up the previous Cameroon Country Programme Office (CCPO) target of bringing 500,000 ha of degraded landscapes under restoration by 2026, six-fold, to 3000,000 ha, to be brought under restoration by 2027.


In consequence, a recent internal FLR planning session mapped out how this 300,000 ha of restoration target are to be distributed across five WWF-supported landscapes; TNS, TRIDOM, Campo Ma’an, Coastal Forests and now Northern Savanna. The Northern Savannah being the only landscape where field activities are not currently occurring, a sub-national Restoration Opportunities Assessment Methodology (ROAM) was implemented in the FARO, BENOUE UTOs in 2021. This ROAM Report identified a significant area of extremely degraded landscapes, and in them, characterized the nature of degradation, opportunities for restoration as well as restoration packages with good potential for success.

So, today, WWF CCPO has developed a Work plan for January to June 2023, has completed a sub national ROAM in the North, launched the FLRinAI in Yaoundé and Garoua, and possess basic sets of data with which to begin engaging with pre-identified stakeholders; land users (e.g., local councils, Lamidas, out-growers), restoration services providers (e.g., soil fertility and agroforestry researchers, nurseries managers), and investors in landscape restoration (private and para public sector investors; FACET POWER, etc.) according to the @moneytrees proposition.


WWF CCPO has a 1 Month window to update information on the @moneytrees Platform. To that end, she is seeking a dedicated Technical Assistant with both the minimum level of natural resources management knowledge and experience, mastery of technology, computer and useful quantitative skills; some stakeholder’s engagement experience and especially strong familiarity with the FLRinAI and WWF core Standards and Values. Additional attributes are outlined below.

WWF CCPO is committing herself to accelerating landscape restoration in the North region of Cameroon through innovation, private sector involvement and through a performance-based system. 

To facilitate this, the platform to operate like an Online “Market Place” www.moneytrees.cm bringing together the Key FLR restoration stakeholders has to be administered. 

The administration task will also involve working with the collaborative platform www.restor.eco to facilitate real-time monitoring needed to stimulate fundraising for FLR.
To set these up and manage them, WWF CCPO is seeking to engage a Technical Assistant to help take the platform to the next level. The selected candidate will be given an initial contract that will not exceed 1 Calendar month and will include training on using and managing the @moneytrees platform, using and manipulating @restor.
Expected Deliverables
Under the direct supervision of the FLR in Africa Initiative - Cameroon focal point, and in collaboration with the Forests and Climate team, the FLR Technical Assistant will be expected to;

1. Be available to be trained on manipulating and administering @moneytrees;
2. Be available to be trained on manipulating @restor;
3. Contact all the relevant FLR stakeholders under the 03 @moneytrees categories identified during the
sub-national ROAM in FARO and BENOUE UTOs;
4. Develop the full profile of each stakeholder in @restor;
5. Update her/his skills on basic GIS and or be available for basic training to facilitate the compilation of
all shapefile boundaries of CCPO restoration priority sites and working with the @restor team, to
upload these sites;
6. Participate in the finalization of the WWF-FACET power partnership and MoU signing;
7. Act as co-secretary of the WWF-FACET power Joint Implementation Unit (JIU);
8. Avail herself/himself of any other requested task related to WWF FLR in Africa initiative;
Applicant profile – Minimum requirements
– Have a University level qualification in a Natural Resources Management related field;

– Should have worked in a natural resources management domain; geography, ecological surveys, socio-economic or farming systems analyses and associated database development;
– Have good working knowledge of Information technology or Computer skills;
– Is 100% available for these tasks on a full-time basis (1 month) and will be available for coaching and
mentoring;
– Already has good mastery of computer-based applications; GIS/RS, Database, Basic Programming,
Coding skills and can learn very quickly
– Have already conducted similar tasks as described here in the past; either as developer or as associate;
– Other attributes relevant to the tasks will be evaluated
