Actions Against Hunger is an International Non Governmental Organization (NGO), apolitical, non
denominational and non-profit. For our operations in Cameroon, we are looking for:
NUTRITION AND HEALTH SENIOR OFFICER M/F
Base: Kumba (south west region)
Number of positions : 1
Contract duration: Until 31 April 2026
Start date: 01/5/2024
Supervised by: Health and Nutrition Program Manager
Technical Supervisor: Head of Department ( HoD), Health and Nutrition
Location : Kumba South-West Region
OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:
Mission 1: Provide technical support to the HF for the management of common diseases in both
children aged 0 to 5 years and adults above 5 (pregnant and lactating women) and Mobile
Clinics when applicable
Activities:
– Supervise examination, screening, medical consultation, and follow up of the children, pregnant
and lactating women.
– Ensure that the staffs administer proper medical treatment to beneficiaries as needed.
– Identify and transfer complicated medical to specialized care
– Support drug supply management
Mission 2: Provide technical support for the provision of care in the pediatric unit inclusive of
SC (supervise nutritional treatment) and maternal cases with complications
Activities:
– Ensure that the staffs carry out a daily medical check-up and consultation with every admitted
beneficiary according to national treatment protocols for Cameroon.
– Ensure correct admission criteria to the SC are followed
– Keep the SC standard in-line with the MOH requirement
– Train staffs on SC protocols
– Ensure daily anthropometric measurement of each beneficiary in SC is conducted.
– Supervise staffs in calculation of daily milk feeds according to protocol.
– Supervise staffs in mixing and preparing milk correctly.
– Provide assistance to mothers if needed to give milk or RUTF to the child.
– Observe mothers during milk and RUTF feeding to identify potential problems if it is necessary.
– Ensure that the appetite test conduct according to protocol.
– Ensures the quality of distribution of WASH kits in health facilities
– Ensure that food and materials are sufficiently supplied for the caretakers, properly used,
maintained and well stored
– Support drug supply management
Mission 3: Provides technical support for data collection in each supported health facility2
Activities
– Ensure proper filling and updating of registration books on daily basis.
– Ensure the correct registration of all admissions and discharges of beneficiaries.
– Complete the medical history form for each child entering the stabilization center.
– Give technical support to compile weekly and monthly reports.
– Draft monthly reports (APR) for the health and nutrition program
– Participate in any other related reporting activities as instructed by the line manager.
– Participate in any other related reporting activities as instructed by the line manager.
– Ensure that copies of monthly report activity from supported HF are timely collected and
centralized at AAH program office.
Mission 4: Ensure reimbursement of bills and timely payment.
Activities
– Ensure reimbursement of bills to the hospital is done on a timely basis (follow up, verification and
submission of invoices for payment)
– Follow up on the cases referred from the community and ensure the reimbursement of their
transportation (reason for referral, source of referral, service that received the referred case)
– Ensure the feeding of patients hospitalized at the SC
Mission 5: Stock management of drugs, medical supplies, food and non-food items
Activities
– Carry out regular stock inventory of drugs, medical supplies, food and non-food items and updates
on their stock levels and expiry dates with the support of the logistics assistance and/or health and
nutrition team and ask support from the pharmacist of the mission when needed
– Ensure that medical supply is sufficient, and the pharmacy is well maintained.
– Order more drugs and supplies as needed to the line manager.
– Ensure that all medicines are properly used, maintained and well stored
– Ensure proper use and storage of all AAH Properties within his/her level of use
Mission 6: Representation and Coordination
Activities
– Participate in organizational meetings and other activities for program and quality improvement
– Participate in other AAH assessments such as health facility assessments.
– Representation of AAH in different coordination meetings/ forums at the hospital or district
level
– Coordination with other sectors within AAH, such as logistics, Finance, programs and externally
with other key stakeholders such as Caritas, Reach Out etc and district health authorities.
– Participate fully in development of proposal related to health and nutrition
– Any other duty as may be assigned by the line manager
DIPLOMAS/STUDIES/EXPERIENCE :
– Essential, University studies. Desirable, health related studies, State Registered Nurse.
– Essential: previous experience of at least 3 years in similar or relevant positions
– Previous experience working with AAH in health and nutrition projects would be an asset
REQUIRED SKILLS :3
– Good managerial abilities, good communication skills, negotiating and organizational skills,
flexibility, resourcefulness, ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment, proactive attitude, good listening skills, capacity to take and follow instructions.
– 3 years’ experience with action against hunger, working directly on nutrition and health in the
humanitarian context.
– Experience in WASH programming
Training skills.
– Knowledge in computing: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
– Knowledge of English and local language (Pidgin English)
– Motorbike riding skill
Essential English(fluent) and local languages of working areas(pidgin English)
