JOB TITLE : Therapeutic Study Monitor (TSM)

JOB LOCATION : <\/strong>Yaound\u00e9 and Garoua
Job purpose: We are seeking a Therapeutic Study Monitor (TSM) as part of a five-year USAID-funded
Systems to End the Malaria Burden through Meaningful Engagement-II (SEMBE II) Project in<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cameroon. The project seeks to strengthen the capacity of the Cameroonian government and local<\/p>\n\n\n\n


stakeholders to positively respond to malaria prevention, control, and elimination priorities.
The TSM will be involved on the implementation of a therapeutic efficacy study (TES) of Artemisinin-
based combination therapy (ACT) for malaria treatment in the north region (Cameroon). The TSM
will work under the authority of the Head of department of Parasitology and Microbiology, acting also
as Study Director of the SEMBE II project at CRID.
Primary Responsibilities:<\/strong>
Specifically, the Therapeutic Study Monitor would undertake the following activities:
\uf0b7 Write the protocol of the study and submit it to the National ethical committee and the
Direction of operational research for health (DROS) of the MoH to obtain the ethical
clearance and the administrative authorization, respectively;
\uf0b7 Conduct controlled studies to assess the effectiveness of antimalarial drugs;
\uf0b7 Verify the origin and quality of the drugs administered to patients;
\uf0b7 Ensure data quality and regulatory compliance at every stage of the study process;
\uf0b7 Ensure the continuous follow-up of the study in the participating health facilities<\/p>\n\n\n\n


\uf0b7 Ensure the recruitment and the training of the nurses who will be involved in the TES;
\uf0b7 Evaluate patients\u2019 clinical and parasitological responses to treatment for uncomplicated
malaria;
\uf0b7 Ensure that the inclusion of participants to the study in accordance with procedures and
criteria described in the protocol;
\uf0b7 Ensure adherence to procedure and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) throughout the study ;
\uf0b7 Verify signatures of informed consents, compliance with inclusion and exclusion criteria;
\uf0b7 Ensure the reliability and completeness of the data collected on the monitoring sheets
reports by nurses;
\uf0b7 Identify obstacles and malfunctions in the implementation of the study and propose
corrective actions;
\uf0b7 Ensure the data collected during the study is entered on a computer and\/or tablet<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\uf0b7 Ensure the transfer of blood samples (blood smears and dried blood spot) from the field to<\/p>\n\n\n\n


laboratory at CRID for both microscopic and molecular analyses;
\uf0b7 Supervise the laboratory analyses of blood samples collected at the health facilities;
\uf0b7 Ensure data management: validation, analysis, archiving;
\uf0b7 Write technical reports
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS QUALITIES NEEDED:<\/strong>
\uf0b7 Medical doctor with good experience on epidemiological studies;
\uf0b7 At least 1 year work experience related to malaria;
\uf0b7 Good knowledge on malaria diagnosis
\uf0b7 Familiarity with antimalarial drug research and relevant therapeutic areas is advantageous;
\uf0b7 Prior experience in clinical research or monitoring roles is advantageous;
\uf0b7 A solid understanding of clinical research principles, study protocols, and Good Clinical
Practice (GCP) guidelines is essential;
\uf0b7 Strong organizational skills are necessary to manage study timelines, site visits, and
documentation;
\uf0b7 Ability to analyse clinical data, identify trends, and assess drug efficacy;
\uf0b7 Capacity to interpret laboratory results and clinical outcomes;
\uf0b7 Data analysis skills and competency in statistical software such as R, SPSS or Stata are
preferred;
\uf0b7 Good knowledge of survival analysis using the Kaplan-Meier method;
\uf0b7 Very good knowledge of malaria control strategies in Cameroon;<\/p>\n\n\n\n


\uf0b7 Very good knowledge on the management of malaria cases by ACTs in Cameroon;
\uf0b7 Proficiency in MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Web Conferencing
Applications, knowledge-sharing networks is required;
\uf0b7 Excellent communication skills (writing and oral presentation) and a demonstrated track
record of working effectively in a teamwork environment, highly desirable;
\uf0b7 A good command of French and English languages is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work Environment<\/strong>
\u2022 The TSM will be based at CRID in Yaound\u00e9 but will have to stay at least half of his time in the North
Region (visiting health facilities in the 15 health districts of the region)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
