As such, it seeks\nto: save the planet by balancing the needs of humans with those of other species that share the Earth, practice\nhumane conservation in the broadest sense, instill in people everywhere a quiet but unconcealed respect for\nnature and balance that respect with a deep belief in human possibility, inspire others who can advance the\ncause of conservation.\nBackground:\nThe Congo Basin is the second-largest tropical forest in the world and is home to an impressive wealth of\nfauna and flora, ranging from isolated species (elephant, rhinoceros, hippopotamus, chimpanzee, and gorilla)\nto endemic habitats (hot spots). The Congo Basin is one of the priority regions for biodiversity conservation\ndue to its exceptional heritage and high level of endemism (Colyn &amp; Deleporte, 2004; Brooks et al., 2011;\nDagalier et al., 2019). These ecosystems have the commons value today and across generations. However, the\ngrowing interest in protecting its ecosystems is challenged by the context of countries' under-development,\nweak governance, and funding shortage.\nAlmost two years ago, the WWF ROA decided to strengthen the Congo basin conservation programme. As we\nmove into the elaboration phase of sub-regional conservation strategy framework, we are looking to recruit\na highly experienced fundraiser consultant to design plan and lead the initiative resource mobilization efforts,\nbuild and maintain relationships across the WWF Network and with external partners and public and private\nsector donors, and mobilize resources towards a multi-million fundraising goal.\nMajor Duties:\n\uf0b7 Consult with the Congo Basin team to understand the vision, mission and focus areas of the\norganization;\n\uf0b7 Conduct a comprehensive analysis of potential donors based on geographic interest and thematic\nfunding and assess the feasibility of securing multiyear and thematic funding;\n\uf0b7 Map donors\u2019 strategic areas of interest and explore opportunities for partnerships from emerging\ndonors working in low- and middle-income countries and private sector foundations;\n\uf0b7 Develop resource mobilization strategy for the Congo Basin, including an analysis of country and\nregional level pipelines;\n\uf0b7 Build a fundraising pipeline and work alongside staff in participating WWF offices to effectively;\n\uf0b7 Work with Initiative leader and country fundraising and program leads to write proposals, develop,\nfundraising materials and donor briefs;\n\uf0b7 Proactive in building relationships across the WWF Network to map out and seize resource,\nmobilization opportunities, including with the Global Practices;\n2\n\uf0b7 Provides support, backstopping, guidance in resource mobilization and partnership development,\nmanage relationships with private and public sector donors;\n\uf0b7 Support the development of funding proposals at country and sub-regional level \u2013 including multicountry programs;\n\uf0b7 Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing donors and partners in the Congo Basin\nregion;\n\uf0b7 Work closely with the sub-regional Congo Basin team to develop a strong and strategic portfolio of\nsub-regional programs for conservation at scale;\n\uf0b7 Provide impetus to, and collaborate in the development and testing of sustainable and innovative\nfinancing models including carbon markets, debt-for-nature swaps, green bonds and blended finance\nsolutions;\n\uf0b7 Other duties as assigned.\nDeliverables\n\uf0b7 A comprehensive resource mobilization strategy that includes an overview of the situation, a critical\nanalysis of past fundraising experience, explores future opportunities and strategies, and outlines a\ntime bound action plan to systematically research and raise funds;\n\uf0b7 An annex that maps donor interests - priorities, funding windows, typical funding amounts, focal\npoints, samples of successful project applications, and points to clear actions that should be taken to\nmobilize resources and develop and maintain relationships with donors;\n\uf0b7 A series of fundraising materials, both print and digital;\n\uf0b7 Master proposals to potential donors;\n\uf0b7 Institutional fundraising guidelines.\nRequired Skills\n\uf0b7 Demonstrated proven leadership skills and ability to work independently;\n\uf0b7 Excellent interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to work with government, donor and\ncorporate agencies at the highest levels and build strong funding networks;\n\uf0b7 Highly competent strategist with proven experience of developing and delivering resource\nmobilisation strategies;\n\uf0b7 Excellent writing and presentational skills and experience of coordinating and writing grant winning\nproposals and writing high quality reports;\n\uf0b7 Excellent understanding and knowledge of the international public and private sector fundraising\nenvironment for conservation and development programmes;\n\uf0b7 Strong project management skills including impact and budget tracking skills;\n\uf0b7 Fluency in oral and written communication skills in English and preferably in French.
