Together, we seek to protect and restore<br>natural habitats, stop the mass extinction of wildlife, and make the way we produce and consume sustainable<br>For our country programme office in Cameroon, we are looking for a dynamic and committed Health Monitoring<br>Assistant who will ensure that the Kudu Zombo Programme in collaboration with local civil society, national<br>partners develop a robust Primate Health and Behavior monitoring programme in line with the WWF Cameroon<br>\u201cOne Health\u201d and Conservation Strategies to promote the conservation of western lowland gorilla viewing tourism<br>at Dipikar Island in CMNP.<br>Supervised by: Wildlife Veterinary Officer \u2013 Kudu Zombo Programme<br>Location: Campo, Cameroon<br>Mission of the department<br>WWF has been habituating gorillas in Campo Ma\u2019an National Park (CMNP) since 2014 for the purpose of developing<br>gorilla viewing tourism. Great ape tourism is one approach to generate income for conservation efforts, enhancing<br>community development as well as increasing the value of protected areas. The habituation process requires<br>trackers to continuously track a specified gorilla group every day in their natural habitat in order to enable the<br>animals become acquainted to human presence. Fourteen professional gorilla trackers and two technical staff<br>execute tracking exercises collecting gorilla behaviour and health data on routine basis; starts at 06:30 and end to<br>16:00 each day.<br>Major Functions<br>The Health Monitoring Assistant will assist the Wildlife Veterinary Officer to ensure that the gorilla habituation and<br>health monitoring is conducted using a non-invasive methodology that minimizes the risk stressing, disease<br>transmission, injury or behaviour change on the primates. Similarly, She\/he will assist to ensure that the risk of<br>disease spillover (zoonoses) to staff, volunteers, visitors and the environment is minimized through the \u201cOne<br>Health\u201d approach. In this regard he\/she will work under the direct technical supervision of the Wildlife Veterinary<br>Officer. He\/she will also be responsible for all \u201cOne Health\u201d field equipment at his\/her disposition for executing field<br>activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Main responsibilities<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\uf0b7 Assist the Vet Officer to collect, fix, label, convey, classify and conserve non-invasive samples from<br>habituated, unhabituated gorillas and other wildlife in the Bio-Bank of Campo WildLab;<br>\uf0b7 Assist the Vet office to perform necropsies, set camera traps at human\/livestock\/wildlife interfaces for<br>diseases monitoring, capture vectors (including carrion flies);<br>\uf0b7 Assist the Vet Officer in collecting non-invasive clinical data and ensure that the various data sets are<br>properly updated, organized, stored, backed up, archived in a health database;<br>\uf0b7 Assist the Vet Officer in organizing awareness meetings for all actors involved in gorilla habituation and<br>health activities;<br>The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Cameroon<br>Seeks a Health Monitoring Assistant<br>\uf0b7 Coordinate the daily activities of the gorilla habituation and health monitoring teams in close collaboration<br>with the Wildlife Veterinarian, spending 10 to 15 days per month in the field (gorilla habituation site);<br>\uf0b7 Participate on a daily basis in the implementation of the bio-monitoring strategy developed for Campo<br>Ma&rsquo;an National Park and its periphery;<br>\uf0b7 Assist in the training of all personnel associated with the gorilla habituation and health monitoring<br>programme;<br>\uf0b7 Assist in the Employee Health Program;<br>\uf0b7 Produce concise and well written field reports on a regular basis.<br>Profil:<br>Required Qualifications<br>\uf0b7 Minimum of a Bachelor degree or an engineering degree in one or more of the following fields:<br>Primatology, Wildlife Biology, Veterinary Science, Microbiology, Forestry and wildlife, Rural Geography,<br>Eco-tourism, or any other related specialization;<br>\uf0b7 Minimum of 02 years\u2019 professional experience in one or more of the following domains: wildlife behaviour<br>and health monitoring, ecological monitoring, field patrols, community sensitization<br>\uf0b7 Courage encountering wildlife in its natural habitat;<br>\uf0b7 Strong vocation interest in nature conservation.<br>Required Skills and Competencies<br>\uf0b7 General knowledge of human environment in Cameroon is an asset;<br>\uf0b7 Fluency in French and English, knowledge of local language(s) spoken in Southern Cameroon is an added<br>advantage;<br>\uf0b7 Willingness and ability to work in a remote area with low supervision;<br>\uf0b7 Minimum of 03 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: (1) management of<br>forest and wildlife resources forest and wildlife resources, (2) rural, community and organizational<br>development;<br>\uf0b7 Good overview of the legal and institutional framework in the field of forest and wildlife resource<br>management in Cameroon;<br>\uf0b7 Computer literate, demonstrated knowledge of data collection tools the, use of GPS and GIS software,<br>Cybertracker\/SMART and related tools (A Good knowledge of camera trapping, wildlife observation and<br>photo analysis is an added advantage);<br>\uf0b7 Proven skills in statistics and data analysis (Excel, other relevant software);<br>\uf0b7 Ability to manage databases; experience managing files on Google Drive;<br>\uf0b7 Knowledge of African rainforest conservation issues and conservation strategies.;<br>\uf0b7 Adhere to WWF\u2019s values: Respect, Courage, Integrity &amp; Collaboration.<br>Working Relationships:<br>Internal<br>Works closely with field Ecological Monitoring Intern\/Volunteer, as well as national bio-monitoring teams in order<br>to collect information and supervise field activities.<br>External<br>The position requires close collaboration with partner organisations such as AWF (African Wildlife Foundation),APED (Appui pour la Protection de l\u2019Environnement et le D\u00e9veloppement) ADEBAGO (Association pour le D\u00e9veloppement des Bagy\u00e9li de l\u2019Oc\u00e9an), BASS-PROTOMAR (Bureau d&rsquo;Assistance Service pour la Protection des Tortues Marines), Tubo Awu, BACUDA (Bagy\u00e9li Cultural and Development Association), PDCAM (Association Pour Le<br>Development De Campo).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>This TOR covers the main tasks and conveys the spirit of the sort of tasks that are anticipated proactively from staff.<br>Other tasks may be assigned as necessary according to organizational needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>How to apply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Apply through the Link: https:\/\/cameroon.panda.org\/apply_to_a_job\/apply_to_a_job\/<br>Deadline for applications: 08<br>th July 2022.<br>Thank you in advance for your interest in this position.
