FAO has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and FAO, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, abuse of authority and discriminationAll selected candidates, therefore, will undergo rigorous reference and background checksAll applications will be treated with the strictest confidentialityThe incumbent may be re-assigned to different activities and\/or duty stations depending on the evolving needs of the Organization\u00a0<br><br><strong>Organizational Setting<\/strong><br><br>Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is implementing the GCP\/CMR\/033\/GFF project entitled \u201cSustainable forest management under the authority of the Cameroonian Councils\u201d in collaboration with Government of Cameroon (Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF), the Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED);\u00a0 <br><br>Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF)) and the\u00a0Association des Communes Foresti\u00e8res du Cameroun (ACFCAM) through its technical unit Centre Technique de la For\u00eat Communale (CTFC). The\u00a0project\u2019s main objective\u00a0is to reduce deforestation and forest degradation in council forests in order to improve biodiversity conservation, reduce emissions and enhance carbon stocks, and improve livelihoods of local communities.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br>This objective will be achieved through\u00a0empowering councils targeted by the project to better manage their forests by improving their technical skills and tools to: implement SFM practices, assess and monitor biodiversity, restore degraded forest areas, measure and monitor carbon stocks, and promote sustainable alternative forest-based livelihoods.\u00a0<br><br>The project\u00a0isstructured into four interlinked technical components: Establishment of council forests for sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation (Component 1); <br><br>Capacity building to strengthen biodiversity conservation and SFM in council forests (Component 2);<br><br> Capacity building for the management of forest carbon (Component 3); and Ecosystem restoration and enhancement of carbon stocks (Component 4).<br><br> With a view to strengthening the technical setting of the project coordination unit, a national consultant project forest carbon technical expert will be recruited to provide technical support to project activities related to forest management and forest management plans. <br><br>\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Reporting Lines<\/strong><br><br>The project sustainable forest management technical specialist\u00a0will be under the direct supervision of the FAO Representative in Cameroon and the technical guidance of the FAO Lead Technical Officer (LTO) of the project.\u00a0<br><br><strong>Technical Focus<\/strong><br><br><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Forest management, natural resource management, forestry, environmental science or other relevant specialization.<br><br>\u00a0<strong>Tasks and responsibilities<\/strong><br><br>The project sustainable forest management technical specialist\u00a0will:<br><br>Be responsible for organizing and providing technical support to workshops, meetings and training activities of the project related to sustainable forest management and forest management plans;<br><br>Provide technical inputs on methodologies\/approaches and field planning and implementation of project activities related to sustainable forest management and forest management plans;\u00a0<br><br>Provide technical support to the planning and organization of consultants and LoA partners field missions related to the implementation of activities related to sustainable forest management and forest management plans in the council forests;<br><br>\u00a0Provide first-hand technical support and guidance to consultants and LoA partners on urgent requests received related to sustainable forest management and forest management plans in the council forests before getting detailed guidance from the LTO;\u00a0<br><br>Review and give inputs for improvement to technical draft reports produced by consultants and partners (LoAs) on project activities related to sustainable forest management and forest management plans in the council forests before submission to LTO for final review and technical clearance;<br><br>Be responsible for monitoring of project consultants and partners\u2019 technical performance in the implementation of the project activities related to sustainable forest management and forest management plans in the council forests;\u00a0<br><br>Represent the project in relevant technical meetings in Cameroon on issues related to sustainable forest management and forest management plans in the council forests seeking to facilitate coordination and synergies with other initiatives and projects on SFM in Cameroon;<br><br>Ensure that the GEF SFM tracking tools are filled out in correct and timely manner with a focus on feeding data related to sustainable forest management;<br><br>Provide technical support to the preparation and edit of technical reports, technical guidelines and publications based on project\u2019s SFM data and contribute to other publications associated with the project results;\u00a0<br><br>Provide technical support to the preparation and edit of technical reports, technical guidelines and publications with a focus on inputs related to sustainable forest management and forest management plans;<br>\u00a0Perform other related duties as required.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br><strong>CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE
