Job Description
The logistics officer (Shipping) will assist the production department functions by handling
shipping documentation and processes for equipment and raw materials coming into the country
while ensuring they meet the required international and national standards and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities (Not Exhaustive)
\u2022 Identify and negotiate the best shipping routes \/ carriers for different equipment and raw
materials coming into the country;
\u2022 Constantly monitor shipping schedules and rates that will be favorable for the company;
\u2022 Plan and arrange appropriate shipment \/ transportation schedules for the equipment and
raw materials;
\u2022 Prepare all documents required for the importation and clearing of load at the port while
ensuring they are up-to-date and meet standard regulations and procedures;
\u2022 Constantly follow up and ensure receipt of shipping documents (BLs,) from load ports
to ensure they are received well in advance of the ships arrivals to avoid late
documentation which may result to vessel demurrage and other extra charges;
\u2022 Constantly monitor vessel arrival dates, discharge commence dates & discharge
completion dates and track progress of shipments to quickly identify any delays and
find solutions to avoid extra charges;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Supervise loading \/ unloading activities to ensure the equipment and materials are
carefully handled and safely transported to storage units;
\u2022 Put in place proper security measures at loading \/ unloading sites to prevent theft as well
as security measures in the course of transporting the load to the grinding plant;
\u2022 Maintain a good filling system for all shipping documents and invoices in line with
Client\u2019s policies and procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Skills
\u2022 A good understanding of various transportation routes, regulations and procedures in
Cameroon;
\u2022 Knowledge of logistics strategies, trends, challenges and opportunities in the cement
industry in Cameroon;
\u2022 Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities;
\u2022 Understand safety and security processes and procedures for freight forwarding;
\u2022 Able to operate logistics databases to monitor the movement of stock across the supply
chain;
\u2022 Good communication skills, an outstanding aptitude to work in a team;
\u2022 Fluent in spoken and written English and a working knowledge in French
\u2022 Very good Microsoft Office skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Qualification:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Bachelor\u2019s Degree, HND or its equivalent in Logistics Management, Transportation
Management or Supply Chain Management;
Experience
\u2022 At least 2years experience in negotiating shipping deals and handling shipping
documentation;
\u2022 Experience in using ERP systems to monitor and control incoming and outgoing stock.
