At Grassland Cameroon we believe in African farmers. We know that with the right resources, they can
improve their livelihoods and escape poverty. We also believe that our solutions can be profit making
and sustainable, making certain that our farmers have uninterrupted assistance over several years.
Our goal is to enable farmers to increase their productivity, access markets and ensure that their
production is properly managed after harvest.
What We Do
We are a food storage, drying, and distribution company that sources products from smallholder
farmers, whom we support during the season with input loans and training, so that they can be more
productive. We transform the farmers’ produce into standardized, graded products that we sell across
the country, to buyers who can be sure of the quality they receive. In five years of operations, we
have worked with just about 1000 farmers, across almost over 300 hectares of land.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced, mid-level hard-working procurement professional, who will support
our operations by making wise purchases of goods and services for resale and internal use. This role
will approve the best products/services at competitive prices without compromising quality. An ideal
candidate would also have the ability to design procurement policies for harvest from program farmers
as well as vendors such as input suppliers, equipment manufacturers, transportation companies, etc.
It entails managing company inventories as well as suppliers/vendors, paying keen attention to details
such as supplier delivery times, qualifications & logistics associated with delivery. It is both a
field-oriented & administrative position, with a good blend of solid negotiation skills, data
management, communication and attention to detail. The successful candidate would have at least
seven years of procurement experience, preferably at another agribusiness or brewery, and is keen to
work in a non scripted, start-up environment. This role would require significant travel within the
Center region and to other production zones. 70 percent is spent in rural areas.
Your responsibilities will include:
Procurement Management:
● Work closely with Management to develop & implement company procurement policies;
● Recruit, train & manage procurement staff;
● Plan, implement & monitor seasons grain procurement at harvest as well as ad hoc grain
purchases as needed;
● Generate, maintain & manage farmer (supplier) & vendor relationships
Inventory tracking & vendor management:
● Create and maintain inventory tracking system;
● Create, maintain & manage vendor database;
● Ensure timely procurement, supply & delivery of all inputs for farming seasons;
Qualifications
● At least seven years of professional work experience (preferably in the agribusiness or beer
industries);
● Demonstrated ability to work on a variety of tasks at the same time, and keep track of a
variety of work-streams;
● Demonstrated knowledge of various types of procurement: single source, tenders, RFPs, etc;
● Must be fluent in English & French (written & oral)
● Problem solver with excellent attention to detail, commitment to excellence, and outstanding
work ethic
● Strong analytical skills
● Flexible and adaptable to changing environments; thrives in a bootstrapped culture
● Strong technology skills (knowledge of Word, Excel, Google Docs, and Dropbox)
● Bachelor’s degree preferred
