Mapping and Data Management Officer

Report to

Executive Director

Contract type and duration

Fixed term

12 months, with a 3-month probationary period and the possibility of extension subject to funding

Hours

Full time, 35 hours per week, (Monday – Friday, 8h – 15h30, Pause 12h -12h30)

Job purpose

Provide mapping and data management support for risk assessment projects at Green DEALL, a non-for-profit and research organisation tackling challenges such as human-wildlife conflicts, climate change, and resource degradation. The post holder will be responsible for collecting, processing, mapping and managing data under the supervision of the Executive Director.

Main duties

·        Perform data collection, analysis, storage, and mapping for Green DEALL’s activities and projects

·       ·        Set up and manage Green DEALL’s databases

·        Ensure data security and integrity

·        Assist in developing and enforcing policies for secure and efficient data handling

·        Prepare written reports and documentation describing project or system status

·        Ideally able to carry out modeling and qualitative analyses to inform vulnerability assessment to disaster risks

Any other tasks assigned by the Executive Director

 

Person specifications

Qualification and experience

·      Master’s Degree in cartography, GIS, or environmental modeling, with demonstrable experience of utilising professional geo-processing software. Training in data management and previous work involving protected areas would be an advantage.

·      An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to provide the applicant with the knowledge, skills and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the job will be considered

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

·      Demonstrable skills in utilising GIS software on desktop and online for analysis and mapping

·      Knowledge of advanced GIS concepts, geoprocessing functions and techniques, and spatial database management

·      Ability to combine knowledge of GIS databases and software with common sense and insight in solving problems and making decisions

·      Knowledge and experience of environmental modeling 

·      Good planning, organising, and time management skills, including the ability to appropriately prioritise assignments

·      Result-oriented, ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision to solve problems and meet deadlines

·      Ability to work as part of a team as well as show own initiative

·      Writing in clear concise language to produce technical reports and other required documentation

·      Strong  oral and verbal communication skills, and ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences

·      Ability to travel and spend time in rural areas 

Languages

·      Fluency in French and English
