Position Summary
The position is responsible for supporting the communications needs of African Wildlife Foundation, Cameroon Office (AWF Cameroon) . The officer will be expected to support the implementation of the communications strategy for Cameroon and support brand-building efforts in West & Central Africa. The position reports to the Field Communications, Storytelling, & Production Manager (based in Nairobi), with matrix reporting to the Cameroon Country Director.
Duties and Responsibilities
Communications strategy
With the support of the larger brand team, create, develop, and execute comprehensive communication plans that align with the organization’s objectives and target audience. This may include defining key messages and selecting appropriate communication channels.
Storytelling and content development
Produce high-quality content such as press releases, blog articles, newsletters, website copy, and social media posts.
Ensure the content is engaging, accurate, and consistent with AWF’s brand and messaging.
These tasks include but are not limited to branding, ideation, writing reports and articles from field visits, and documenting them through high-quality photography and videography.
Media relations
Cultivate relationships with media outlets, journalists, and bloggers to secure media coverage of AWF in Cameroon and the region (West & Central Africa)
Coordinate press releases and media events
Act as the primary contact for media inquiries.
Social media management
Working closely with the Digital Marketing Manager to develop and implement social media strategies to expand AWF’s presence and engage with the target audience in Cameroon and the region (West & Central Africa).
Monitor social media channels, respond to comments and messages, and analyze social media metrics to measure the effectiveness of campaigns.
Communications capacity building
With the support of the brand team, organize internal communications training and facilitate effective internal communication reporting, e.g., Yammer updates, to ensure that staff are well-informed about the organization’s activities and initiatives.
Also, ensure consistency in brand messaging and visual identity across all communications channels by providing guidance to staff members on brand standards.
Event Management
Assist in logistics, planning, and documenting in-country and landscape events and visits
Monitoring and evaluation
Track and analyze the impact of communication efforts through various metrics such as media coverage, website traffic, and social media engagement for the region.
Use the data to make informed decisions and continuously improve communications strategies.
Crisis Communications
Support the brand team and country offices to monitor, navigate and manage issues and crises should they arise.
Grants Management projects
Track Communications and Visibility deliverables for all the grants awarded to AWF in Cameroon and the region (West & Central Africa).
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, Communications, Journalism, or related field.
Three to Five years’ experience in a mid-level communications, journalism, or public relations role
Strong administrative and organizational skills
Intermediate knowledge of photography and videography will be an added advantage.
Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
Excellent writing, digital storytelling, problem-solving, and time management skills.
Aptitude in presentation and public speaking.
Curious and eager to learn.
Excellent spoken and written French and English
